Tenured professor of Moral Philosophy at the UPV/EHU. Degree in Philosophy and Sciences of Education, Philosophy Section, and in Law from this University, and PhD in Philosophy and Sciences of Education, Philosophy Section, also from the UPV/EHU.
He has taught for almost 40 years, initially combining teaching at the secondary and university levels, and since the year 1996 dedicated exclusively to teaching and research in the UPV/EHU (with 6 recognised teaching quinquennia, as well as recognition on the Docentiaz program).
He has taught at the undergraduate level, and on Doctoral and Masters programs. For over ten years he was in charge of the Doctoral Programs on “Current Issues in Philosophy” and “Culture and Society”. He has directed 13 doctoral theses (five of them with an International Mention and two awarded an extraordinary doctoral prize) and over 40 Final Projects for Masters Courses, Undergraduate Courses and Research Proficiency Courses. He has formed part of 50 committees evaluating PhDs and Final Projects for Masters Courses, Undergraduate Courses and Research Proficiency Courses. He is accredited as a Full Professor by UNIBASQ, complement A1 (recognition of excellence in teaching and research) also by UNIBASQ.
He has participated in over 10 research projects at the UPV/EHU and at other universities. Currently he is a member of the consolidated research group “Biography & Parliament”. He received the Lehendakari Agirre prize from the Foral Deputation of Gipuzkoa, for the research work “Actualidad y retos de la filosofía política” (Current Situation and Challenges in Political Philosophy) in 2011. He has two recognised research sexennia.
He has authored over 100 publications including articles in journals, book chapters and complete books. He has presented papers at over 50 international and national congresses, conferences, seminars, etc., many of which he organised.
He has made teaching and research stays at foreign and national universities, such as the Università degli Studi di Palermo (Italy), U. Nacional San Antonio Abad del Cusco (Peru), U.de Potiguar (Brazil), U. Sevilla, U. Málaga, etc. Stays funded by different programs (Erasmus, Movilidad de Investigación del Gobierno Vasco, etc.), or by invitation from the universities concerned. 
He is a referee for different indexed journals such as ARAUCARIA, Política y Cultura, Praxis Filosófica, etc., and he is a member of the editorial committee of journals like Res Publica, Cuadernos de Ética y Filosofía Política, etc.
With respect to management tasks, he forms part of the Management of the Colección de Pensamiento Político LIMES, where he has directed and edited 24 of the published volumes. He is secretary of the Department of Philosophy of Values and Social Anthropology, member of the Board of the Faculty of Philosophy and Education Sciences, the Committee on Euskera, the Committee that developed the current Philosophy Degree adapted to the EEES (European Higher Education), and other evaluation committees (extraordinary doctoral prizes, reports for the certification of doctoral theses, etc.). He has been involved in the Latin American Postgraduate Network (Red Latinoamericana de Posgrado) from the outset, where he is a member of the Academic Committee of the Philosophy Master in a Global World (Comisión Académica del Máster Filosofía en un Mundo Global), one of the masters of the network.
He has shared his knowledge with society through his participation on different radio and television programs and in the printed press. Some of the newspapers involved are: El País, El Diario Vasco or the supplement La Pérgola, and with respect to radio and television he has appeared on Euskadi Irratia (Radio Euskadi) and on Euskal Telebista’s program Egunon Euskadi, in which he provides his analyses of current political affairs.

•    Honorary Member of the Ilustre Colegio de Abogados del Cusco (Peru).

•    Distinguished Visitor at the Escuela de Postgrado de la Universidad Andina del Cusco (Peru).
•    Honorary Professor at the Universidad Nacional San Antonio Abad del Cusco (Peru).
